Due Soon Widget

Due Soon Widget

Overview

The Due Soon Widget gives managers, admins, and owners a clear, at-a-glance view of who has learning activities coming up within a defined time window. Rather than hunting through reports or waiting for missed deadlines to surface, you can stay ahead of upcoming learning activity across your organisation — before anything slips through the net.

The widget presents results as a tabular list. Each row represents a single upcoming due item for a specific user, showing exactly what is due, who it belongs to, which team they are in, who their manager is, and how many days remain. Results are always sorted soonest-first, so the most time-sensitive items appear at the top.

This widget surfaces upcoming deadlines only — it won't show overdue items. To see what's already past due, head to your reporting tools or configure escalation rules.

Functionality Breakdown

What the widget shows

Each row in the Due Soon Widget table contains the following columns:

Column

Description

Column

Description

Avatar

The user's profile picture

User

Full name and job title. Links to the user's profile page if the viewer has permission to access it

Content

The name of the due item and its content type (e.g. "Video", "Learnlist", "Channel", "1-to-1", "Event", "Survey")

Team

The user's primary team name

Manager

The manager's full name and job title. Links to the manager's profile page if the viewer has permission to access it

Due in

The number of days remaining until the deadline, displayed as "Today" if due today, or "X days" otherwise, alongside the formatted date

Sorting

Results are ordered by deadline ascending (soonest first), then by last name ascending where deadlines match.

Pagination

When results exceed the per-page limit, the widget paginates automatically. Use the pagination controls at the bottom of the widget to move between pages.

Empty state

When no items are due within the configured period, the widget displays a clock icon and the message: "No users with items due in this period."

Content types tracked

The widget can track six types of learning activity. You choose which types to include when configuring the widget:

Content Type

What it tracks

Content Type

What it tracks

Tasked items / actions

Individual task assignments on Items (videos, documents, e-learning, etc.). The Content column shows the specific item type, e.g. "Video" or "Document"

Tasked Learnlists

Individual task assignments on Learnlists. Content type shows "Learnlist"

Tasked Channels

Individual task assignments on Channels (Carousels). Content type shows "Channel"

1-to-1s assigned

Active, incomplete, non-archived 1-to-1 meetings with a deadline falling within the date range. Both the user and the assessor (manager) appear as separate rows. Content type shows "1-to-1". The content name is the 1-to-1 template name

Event enrolments

Approved event session enrolments where the session starts within the date range. Content type shows "Event"

Surveys assigned

Current (non-archived) survey attempts with a deadline within the date range. Content type shows "Survey"

💡 For 1-to-1s, both the user and their assessor will appear as separate rows in the widget, since both parties are expected to participate.

Deadline range

The widget shows items due within a rolling window from today. Available options are:

  • Next 3 days

  • Next 7 days

  • Next 14 days

  • Next 30 days

The selected range is displayed as a pill badge directly on the widget.

Dashboard compatibility

The Due Soon Widget can be added to any Dashboard, but the widget does not automatically scope data based on the Dashboard context (except for personal Manager Dashboards)

Pre-requisites

Before you can use the Due Soon Widget, make sure the following are in place:

  • You must have a Dashboard set up to add the widget to. See Adding and Customising Widgets for help getting started.

  • For the widget to show meaningful data, users must have active learning assignments (tasks, events, 1-to-1s, or surveys) with deadlines set within the configured range.

Quick Start Guide

Follow these steps to add and configure the Due Soon Widget on a dashboard.

  1. Navigate to the relevant Dashboard from the sidebar navigation.

  2. Click Add Widget beneath the dashboard banner.

  3. In the widget catalogue, browse the Learn category or use the search bar to find "Due Soon".

  4. Click the Due Soon tile to open the configuration panel.

  5. Select your preferred Deadline range from the dropdown:

    • Next 3 days

    • Next 7 days

    • Next 14 days

    • Next 30 days

  6. Tick the content type checkboxes for what you want to track:

    • Tasked items / actions

    • Tasked Learnlists

    • Tasked Channels

    • 1-to-1s assigned

    • Event enrolments

    • Surveys assigned

  7. Choose your user filter:

    • All users — shows all company users (company dashboards) or all managed users (manager dashboards)

    • Selected — shows only specific users, teams, or groups that you select

    • All except selected — shows everyone except specific users, teams, or groups that you exclude

  8. If you chose Selected or All except selected, use the entity picker to filter by individual users, team (with an optional "Include sub-teams" toggle), or group.

  9. Click Add Widget to place the widget on the dashboard.

Manager Dashboard variations

When adding the Due Soon Widget to a Personal Manager Dashboard, the user filter options are adapted:

  • All direct reports — shows users you manage directly. An optional "Include sub-managed users" checkbox extends this to your full management hierarchy.

  • Selected — pick from your direct reports or manageable teams.

  • All except selected — exclude specific direct reports or teams from the results.

Team Dashboard variations

On a Team Dashboard, the user scope is automatically restricted to members of that team. No additional user filtering is required.

💡 You can resize the widget on your dashboard once it has been placed. See Widget Sizing and Grid Layout for guidance on sizing and positioning.

FAQs

Q: Why does a user appear twice in the Due Soon Widget for the same 1-to-1?

This is expected behaviour. When 1-to-1s are included as a content type, both the user and their assessor (manager) are shown as separate rows, because both parties have a responsibility to complete the meeting by the deadline.

Q: Can I see overdue items in this widget?

No. The Due Soon Widget shows only items with deadlines falling within the configured future range — from today up to the end of the selected period (e.g. "Next 7 days"). To view overdue items, use the reports section or configure escalation rules.

Q: How frequently does the widget data refresh?

Widget data refreshes periodically, so newly assigned tasks or deadlines may take a few minutes to appear. Give it a moment and then reload the dashboard.

Q: Why are some users shown without a team name?

A user will have no team name if they haven't been assigned a primary team. The Team column will appear empty for those users. You can update team membership from the People section of the platform.

Q: Can a Learner see the Due Soon Widget?

Not directly — Learners can't access the widget catalogue or add widgets themselves. But if an admin or owner has added the Due Soon Widget to a dashboard the Learner can access (like a team dashboard), they'll see it there.

Q: Can I add the Due Soon Widget to a team dashboard?

Yes. Owners and admins can add the widget to team dashboards.

Q: Does the widget show events or 1-to-1s that the user has already completed?

No. The widget only surfaces items that are active and incomplete. Completed events, completed 1-to-1s, and archived content are excluded from results.

Troubleshooting

Issue

Solution

Issue

Solution

Widget shows "No users with items due in this period" when you expect results

Check that: the content type checkboxes are ticked in the widget configuration; the deadline range is wide enough to capture the upcoming deadlines you expect to see; the user filter isn't excluding the people you're looking for.

A specific user's item is missing from the results

Confirm the task, event, 1-to-1, or survey has a deadline set, that the deadline falls within the configured range, and that the item is active and not archived or deleted.

User shows in results but with no team name

The user has not been assigned a primary team. Update their team membership in the People section.

The "Include sub-teams" or "Include sub-managed users" option is not visible

These options only appear once you have selected "All direct reports" (on manager dashboards) or chosen a team in the entity picker (on regular dashboards).

Manager profile link is not clickable

Links to user and manager profiles only appear if the person viewing the dashboard has permission to access that user's profile. If you don't have that permission, the name appears as plain text.

Widget is available but shows no data despite active tasks

Verify the tasks were assigned as individual tasks (not group/team tasks), are in an open/active state, and have not been marked as deleted or completed.
