Working with Exported Data
Once you have your CSV file:
In Excel or Google Sheets:
Open the CSV file directly, or import it into a new spreadsheet
Use filters to focus on specific skills or rating types
Create charts to visualise rating distributions
Use conditional formatting to highlight gaps (where current rating < target rating)
For Reporting:
Compare self-ratings vs manager ratings for alignment insights
Identify skills with high targets but low current ratings (development priorities)
Track progress by exporting periodically and comparing over time
FAQs
Q: Can I export skills for multiple users at once?
Individual exports are done per user. For bulk reporting across multiple users, use the Skills Reports on dashboards which offer aggregated views.
Q: What if a rating shows a dash (-)?
A dash indicates no rating has been recorded for that rating type (self, target, or manager) for that skill.
Q: Are rating labels included?
Yes. Both the numeric value and the label from your rating framework are included, so you see "3" and "Competent" (or whatever your labels are).
Q: Can I export historical skills data?
Exports show current skill ratings. For historical tracking, the audit trail on individual skills shows rating changes over time.
Q: What format is the date in?
The export doesn't include dates by default. Rating timestamps are available in the platform's audit trail.
Q: Can I import skills data back into Learn Amp?
Skills can be imported via the Skills CSV import feature (for creating/updating skills) or via user imports for assigning skills to users in bulk.
Troubleshooting
Issue | Solution |
|---|---|
Export button not visible | Ensure you have permission to view the user's skills. Managers can export for their reports; admins can export for anyone. |
Export file is empty | The user has no skills on their profile. Skills must be added before they appear in exports. |
Ratings showing as dashes | No rating has been recorded for that type. The user needs to self-rate, or their manager needs to provide a rating. |
Can't open the CSV file | Try opening it with a different application. Ensure your spreadsheet software is set to UTF-8 encoding for special characters. |
Export not completing | Large exports may take time. Check your downloads folder or wait for the notification that the file is ready. |
