CPD Points for Events
Overview
Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points can be awarded to learners when they attend event sessions. This helps organisations track professional development hours and ensures learners receive credit for their participation in training events.
CPD points for events integrate with Learn Amp's broader CPD tracking system, allowing learners to accumulate points across all their learning activities.

Before configuring CPD points for events:
The Events feature must be enabled for your company

Understanding CPD Points
What Are CPD Points?
CPD points represent units of professional development time or achievement. Organisations use them to:
Track employee training hours
Meet regulatory or professional body requirements
Measure learning investment
Demonstrate commitment to continuous improvement
Formal vs Informal Points
Learn Amp distinguishes between two types of CPD:
Type | Description | Examples |
|---|---|---|
Formal | Structured, accredited learning with defined outcomes | Certification courses, accredited workshops, compliance training |
Informal | Self-directed or unstructured learning | Team meetings, peer discussions, lunch-and-learns |
💡 Tip: Use the point type that matches your organisation's CPD framework or professional body requirements.
Configuring CPD Points on Sessions
CPD points are configured at the session level, not the event level. This allows different sessions to award different amounts.
To add CPD points to a session:
Navigate to Manage → Events
Select the Event and edit a session
Locate the CPD Points field
Enter the number of points (supports decimals, e.g., 1.5)
Select whether points are Formal or Informal
Save the session
Points Configuration Examples
Event Type | Duration | Suggested Points | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
Compliance webinar | 1 hour | 1.0 | Formal |
Team workshop | 2 hours | 2.0 | Informal |
Certification training | Full day | 7.0 | Formal |
Lunch and learn | 30 mins | 0.5 | Informal |
When Points Are Awarded
CPD points are awarded when attendance is marked as "attended":
The session takes place
Attendance is recorded (automatically or manually)
The learner is marked as attended
CPD points are credited to their account
The learner receives a notification (if configured)
⚠️ Warning: Points are only awarded for attended sessions. Learners who are enrolled but don't attend do not receive CPD points.
Session-Level vs Event-Level Points
In Learn Amp, CPD points are assigned per session:
For "All Sessions" events:
Each session can have its own CPD point value
Learners accumulate points from each session they attend
Total points = sum of attended sessions
For "Selected Sessions" events:
Learners enrol in specific sessions
They receive points only for the sessions they attend
Different sessions can award different amounts
Example:
An "All Sessions" training programme with 3 sessions:
Session 1: 2 formal points
Session 2: 2 formal points
Session 3: 1 informal point
A learner who attends all three receives 5 total points (4 formal + 1 informal).

CPD Points and Event Completion
The relationship between CPD points and event completion:

|---|---|---|
Attended, marked present | ✓ Yes | ✓ Yes (if all required sessions attended) |
Enrolled, but absent | ✗ No | ✗ No |
Attended, no points configured | N/A | ✓ Yes |
Session archived after attendance | Points retained | Completion retained |

FAQs
Can I edit CPD points after a session has ended?
Yes, you can update the CPD point value on a session. However, already-awarded points are not automatically recalculated. Contact support if you need to adjust historical records.
What if the same learner attends the same session twice?
CPD points are typically awarded once per enrolment. Duplicate attendance within the same session doesn't double points.
Can I award different points to different learners?
Currently, all attendees of a session receive the same CPD points. For differentiated awards, consider using separate sessions.
Do cancelled sessions affect CPD points?
If a session is archived before it occurs, no points are awarded. If cancelled after attendance was recorded, existing points are retained.
Can external systems receive CPD point data?
Yes, CPD data can be exported and, depending on integrations, may sync with HR systems. Contact your administrator about available integrations.
What decimal precision is supported for CPD points?
Points support up to two decimal places (e.g., 1.25, 0.5, 3.75).
Troubleshooting
Issue | Solution |
|---|---|
Points not appearing for learner | Verify attendance was marked as "attended" and the session has CPD points configured |
Wrong point amount awarded | Check the session's CPD configuration; edit and save if incorrect |
Formal/Informal showing incorrectly | Edit the session and select the correct CPD type |
CPD section not visible | Ensure CPD tracking is enabled in company settings |
Points not in reports | Confirm the date range includes the session date and the user filter is correct |
Decimal points not saving | Ensure you're using a valid decimal format (e.g., 1.5 not 1,5) |
